My wife has been on at me to replace her point and shoot camera with the powershot S95. My sister in law bought this almost a year ago and after Martin’s recent recommendations this was the camera we were going to get.

Having spent a little time trying to find a store that carried the S95 in stock a couple of months back (the Japan earthquake repercussions were blamed) it was put on the backburner as other things tied up the family budget. Yesterday my wife spotted the S95 had dropped in price to AU$399 with a 200 print voucher and wanted to buy it straight away. With a little investigating I confirmed my suspicions the reason for the price drop was due to the release of the S100.

Now I have the decision to make as to whether to wait until stocks of the new S100 arrive in November at a price of approx AU$550, more than likely with the same 200 print voucher. Most probably I will have to put in a pre-order so as to nab one before xmas. Or do I pass up on the updates of the newer model and get the S95 a little earlier and a bit cheaper?

PS. You may notice there is a fair bit of a delay between the release of the new products and the reality in obtaining them. Thats just how it rolls sometimes in WA.
