Sensor cleaning

Feb 21
Uncategorized

I used the old Visible Dust brush for a while, then I got tired of the whole compressed air deal and started bringing my cameras to a local shop to be cleaned. The thing is, 3 cameras once a month at $50 each is becoming pretty expensive, and sometimes I don’t feel like they do the job perfectly.
I’ve seen the Visble Dust kit came a long way from when I used to use it, is it easier and more effective now?
What do you guys use, and why? Any special tips?

Canon 5D MKIII or X?

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Will you upgrade to the new Canon 5D when it becomes available or is your 5D MkII good enough? What features would sell you on a MkIII? Maybe they will call it 5D x as they have with the 1D? I have a 5D MKI so it is a no brainer for me to go to the new body.

Shooting The Moon

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Ive tried a few times to get nice clear pics of a full moon.
Most not that sucessful.

Im using a 20d with 300L IS with an x1.4 making it 672mm

Ive tried a few / many different combinations of iso/speed/aperture etc
also i use mirror lockup with a tripod with a remote, raw and jpg’d too

Anyone any ideas of the best camera settings ?
I read 100iso 1/125th @ f8 which was sucessful but could definately be bettered

I am aware this is a hard subject to shoot and also there is a lot of dust / debris between myself and the moon making focus a little difficult

The best ive done sofar is with my 70-200L and enlarged it with a few PS tweeks

Shooting RAW Facts

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Hello ,

i’m relative new photography , my camera body is a 20D i’ve been for a wile searching for information abot the best format to shot and yhe most recommended between professional and amateur is RAW format over JPEG.

I recently found this info from a we;; know professional photographer (weeding):

CANON EOS10/20D SETTINGS
My recommendation for all Canon 10D/20d for greatest midrange detail and optimum workflow up to 10×15″ prints:
Parameter 1: SETUP:
SIZE – Medium Stairstep
SATURATION – MINUS 1
CONTRAST – MINUS 2
SHARPNESS – PLUS 2
FLASH – E-TTL with no exposure compensation
METEING MODE: Multizone (eyeball with two parenthesis)

My question is : does this setting will affect or improve your qualiy pictures if you shoot in RAW format?? i guess no , but now i’m a little confused.

thank you in advance.

I took this shot with my Circular PL fIlter. I could minimize the black edges effects by turning it but couldn’t get rid of them completely. They didn’t appear without the filter. What was I doing wrong?

Lightroom 3

Feb 21
Uncategorized

I purchased Lightroom 3 and I am very impressed so far. A question though, does anyone know how to automatically apply lens correction on import?
I have a couple different cameras and the exif data is available on the 5D and 20 D, and I have set a preset to apply
Lens Correction but it simply will not work. I have to go into each pic and enable profile correction. I can apply corrections to multiple pics with Sync Setting once imported.

I have gone thru 2 manuals and various queries thru Adobe but I can’t see where it says that Lens Correction can not be applied – it does say that Develop Presets can be applied on import.

Now let me clarify, I am importing from my hard drive – not the camera. I have not tried importing from the camera/memory card. Would that make a difference?
