I recently finished a little report on the duration between graduation and licensure in NY State. The Board gave me a little data on the 15,000 licensed architects and I charted how long it takes to get licensed.

If you’re interested in such a subject, The chart for NY State is posted at http://www.stairwaytoarchitecture.com

It’s a 4meg pdf, linked at http://www.stairwaytoarchitecture.com/i … REPORT.pdf

It looks like this:

enjoy. I’m one of the dots in there somewhere… I guess I could find it if I looked… ;)

please let me know if there is anything unclear in the charts or the information. Thanks.

Very slow backup to USB drive

Feb 24
Uncategorized

Hey,

I’m trying to first time backup my complete ReadyNAS Duo to a USB drive but finding the backup speeds to be surprisingly slow. The backup job is in progress right now but in 12 hours of running has only managed 100gig.

I’ve tried cancelling and restarting the job a few times but it’s no different. I’ve also tried with fast USB write off but didn’t notice any major difference.

I’m just wondering if there’s any reason it takes this long and if there’s anything I can try to speed it up. Once I’ve done this first backup I was hoping to switch to rsync but I understand that might make the copying even slower?

This is my setup…
In the NAS I have two 500GB drives setup as separate volumes, each just over 50% full.
I’m backing up to this Ext3 formatted, 1TB Seagate drive via the front USB port on the NAS: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-gb/products/external/expansion/expansion_desktop/

Any help appreciated!

Shooting RAW Facts

Feb 21
Uncategorized

Hello ,

i’m relative new photography , my camera body is a 20D i’ve been for a wile searching for information abot the best format to shot and yhe most recommended between professional and amateur is RAW format over JPEG.

I recently found this info from a we;; know professional photographer (weeding):

CANON EOS10/20D SETTINGS
My recommendation for all Canon 10D/20d for greatest midrange detail and optimum workflow up to 10×15″ prints:
Parameter 1: SETUP:
SIZE – Medium Stairstep
SATURATION – MINUS 1
CONTRAST – MINUS 2
SHARPNESS – PLUS 2
FLASH – E-TTL with no exposure compensation
METEING MODE: Multizone (eyeball with two parenthesis)

My question is : does this setting will affect or improve your qualiy pictures if you shoot in RAW format?? i guess no , but now i’m a little confused.

thank you in advance.

Ruben

All my Microsoft Word Document files were converted to OO notepad upon downloading and installing OO 3.3. There were no prompts or warnings that this would happen. All formatting, headers, footers were lost. All my document formatting is now commandeered by 00 3.3 and it will only allow the notepad format. I am still using windows XP pro as some of my periphereals do not have windows 7 drivers. I cannot get a properly formatted document out of my machine anymore. I am using an older version of MS office-2000. Spreadsheets are unaffected.

Hello everyone!

Special Thanks to “Hagar de l’Est” —(love the comic–my French is rusty or is that Viking? as to what that means),—- for all the time spent writing/giving advice on how to use the Forum. Most Forums I find do not give such clear details!

Sorry about my “signature” at the end of the message. The Forum would not let me “register” unless I was a genuine “user” of Open Office and listed my office version and platform and as you will see below, I don’t have any installed yet as I am a “pre-Open office ” question person! (so I made up one I knew does not exist as you would know its impossible to be running that version).

The problem? in a word or two, I have Windows 7 on my new Laptop.

I performed a search of your prior questions and of the OOo pages for support and just did not get any response to “windows 7″ at all.

Is OO available for WIndows 7 yet? Its all I have on my new laptop. I have a trail version of “Office 2010″ on it but it will expire in just a few more “trial uses” and I need something else to use. I just don’t want to spend the money for this new version of Word when I have paid versions on several other computers for older systems (i.e. XP) that thanks to Microsoft, are not allowed to operate in the new Windows 7 environment.

That is the basic question.

If you need or require any further information, I’ll be happy to provide it.

WIndows 7 (in retrospect not a good Username as I might have other questions once I install OO).

Successor to the two year old 50D, the EOS 60D offers a number of key highlights, including an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, 3 inch vari-angle LCD screen, Full HD video capture with manual controls, etc. Just like the 7d and 550D / Rebel T2i models, the EOS 60D offers a choice of 24, 25 or 30fps when recording Full HD video clips, and 50/60fps when shooting at 720p or VGA resolution. Regardless of 1080p or 720p, Canon EOS 60D DSLR records its movies as MOV files using variable bitrates H.264 compression.

To the EOS 60D users who would like to burn EOS 60D Videos to DVD for viewing thru a DVD player hooked-up to your HDTV, you may need to convert EOS 60D MOV video to MPEG-4 compatible with DVD burning tools such as iDVD. Now I will share you the solution about convert EOS 60D Video to iDVD with high speed conversion.

Preparation: Install and launch Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac.
After downloading the converter, install it on your iMac/Macbook and then run it. The software interface will appear in front of you.

Step 1: Pull Canon EOS 60D videos into Brorsoft EOS 60D Converter.
Connect your Canon EOS 60D DSLR with your Mac, copy all the MOV videos in Canon 60D to a file folder. And then click the “Add” button to pull them into the converter. All the video clips will be listed in the imported file field.

Tips: If you want to get only one single editable file, you can use this mac EOS 60D converter’s “merge into one file” feature. Load all of your separate H.264 MOV files to the program; check the box “Merge into one file” on the main interface with only one click.

Step 2: Set the output format as “MPEG-4” compatible with iDVD.
Click the “Format” drop-down list below the imported file field. Then you come to the output format menu, where you can choose a right output format. In the “Common Video” section, select “MPEG-4(*.mp4)” as iDVD friendly format ). Set the output routine in the “Output” box so that you can easily find the converted videos.

Chipmunk on Symbian S60 Phones

Feb 19
Uncategorized

Hi there,

I created a small port for Symbian S60 Phones which I wanted to show you! I hope you like it and maybe someone can use it for future porjects

You get all information here:

http://forum.fantasyhaze.com/index.php? … readID=398

and a small video on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxNDmP0M5jg

Description of ChipmunkS60:

The Chipmunk port used the Symbian S60 5th edition application “MobilePaint” as basic application for the game engine. After porting the C code from the original Chipmunk PC version it was used to integrate it into the MobilePaint application. Finally the complemental part was adding a small engine to use the draw mechanism for creating objects.

Finally the last status of the project is that you can draw rectangles and circles which get a own physical state. Furthermore you can draw lines which can be used as static collision objects. By changing the drawing color you can increase the gravity, by using the stroke tool you can decrease the gravity. A button for cleaning the screen is also available. Everything is done by using the touch interface.

Restrictions of the Physic Engine:

Note: Due to the fact that most (well all by default so far) S60 phones don’t have hardware floating point support (Hardware – FPU), so any floating point maths is emulated in software and thus very slow – not good for a physics engine in fact but it runs anyway.

Gameplay (steering):

When starting the application you will have a white space where you can draw all things.
On the side you have a tool panel which can be clicked and moved whereever you want. You choose your tool and start painting. During painting the physics will not be enabled. After you have finished your stroke will be moved by physics.

You can choose following tools:
